JAMMU, Feb 23: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, here today, inspected Wards 63 and 65 and took first-hand stock of the civic issues faced by the locals particularly concerning sanitation, cleaning of streets and drains and construction of new drainage infrastructure.
During visit to Ward 63, Chinor, the Commissioner inspected a drain as there were complaints from the locals that it frequently overflows during rains which disrupts normal life and also causes water-logging apart from damaging adjoining properties and deteriorating nearby roads and lanes.
Taking serious note, Dr. Yadav directed the Executive Engineer to prepare a comprehensive estimate for strengthening and remodelling the drainage system to ensure smooth flow of rainwater and prevent future incidents of flooding.
The Commissioner also reviewed the overall sanitation scenario in the area and emphasized that regular de-silting of drains must be carried out well before the onset of the monsoon season to avoid water-logging and public inconvenience.
In Ward 65, Bantalab, Barnai and Ganganagar, the residents apprised the Commissioner about the absence of adequate drainage facilities.
Responding promptly, Dr. Yadav directed the Executive Engineer to prepare a detailed project report and cost estimate for the construction of new drains and improvement of streets in the affected areas.
Sanjay Badiyal, Deputy Commissioner South, JMC, Executive Engineer, Rajesh Kumar, Chief Transport Officer, Ranjan Sharma and other senior officers and officials of JMC accompanied the Commissioner.
