Five drug peddlers held with heroin, pistols

JAMMU, Feb 21: Jammu Police achieved a major breakthrough in its sustained campaign against the drug menace by arresting five drug peddlers in separate operations in the Nowabad and Gandhi Nagar areas and recovering a substantial quantity of heroin along with illegal arms and ammunition.
During the intervening night of February 20and 21, a police team from Police Station Nowabad laid a naka near Old University Campus Road on Canal Road to check suspicious persons and vehicles. At around 10:50 pm, a suspect approaching from the Tawi Bandh side attempted to flee on noticing the police party. Acting swiftly, the team chased and apprehended him. A search led to the recovery of heroin-like narcotic substance from his possession.
The accused was identified as Yawar Fayaz, son of Fayaz Ahmad Itoo, a resident of Dailgam, Watergam in Anantnag. In this connection, FIR Number 32/2026 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Nowabad and investigation has been taken up.
In another series of operations within the jurisdiction of Police Station Gandhi Nagar, police recovered approximately 167 grams of heroin (chitta) and two pistols along with ammunition and arrested four drug peddlers. The operation began on January 8 with the arrest of Harpreet Singh alias Bablu and recovery of 30 grams of heroin. On his disclosure, police subsequently apprehended Mohammad Iqbal of Samba and Amit Kumar alias Jogi from Pakki Mandi, Samba on February 8 and recovered about 146 grams of heroin and one pistol from their possession.
In a separate operation on February 12, Balvinder Kumar and Sunny Kumar, both residents of RS Pura, were arrested and 21 grams of heroin, one pistol and a live cartridge were seized.
Accordingly, FIR Numbers 09/2026 and 38/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, BNS and Arms Act have been registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar. Further investigation in all cases is in progress.
