HC arrested by CBI for taking bribe, SHO transferred

JAMMU, Feb 19: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a Head Constable (HC) posted at Gharota Police Station while allegedly accepting a bribe.
The accused, identified as Ashok Kumar, was caught in a trap laid by the agency following a complaint that he had demanded money from a person in connection with a case.

A formal case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
According to sources, a counter FIR had been registered in connection with a dispute, and Ashok Kumar was the Investigating Officer in the matter. He had allegedly demanded a bribe to drop a person’s name from the case.
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap and apprehended him while taking the bribe.
Following the arrest, SSP Jammu ordered the immediate transfer of SHO Gharota, Inspector Sandeep Katoch.
Meanwhile, Inspector Rajesh Verma has been posted as the new Station House Officer.
