SRINAGAR, Feb 16: The Jammu Kashmir Women Employees Association today protested here, seeking regularisation of all contractual and daily wage employees and the enforcement of long-pending service benefits.
Scores of women employees assembled at Sher-e-Kashmir Park, with participants representing several districts of the Kashmir Division. The protestors called for job security, dignity at work and equal treatment under existing labour laws.
During the protest, the Association highlighted the demand for regularisation of various categories of workers, including Aaya Helpers, Cooks, National Youth Corps (NYC) members, Rehbar-e-Khel (REK) staff and Zonal Ground Coordinators (ZGCs). Protesters also sought strict implementation of the Minimum Wages Act, an end to the seven-day service break system, enhancement and streamlining of honorarium for contractual employees, medical leave for Anganwadi workers, and extension of gratuity and pension benefits.
Addressing the gathering, Chairperson Dr Nazia Bhat said women employees formed the backbone of grassroots institutions but continued to work under prolonged uncertainty. She said the Association would continue its peaceful and democratic struggle until “justice, security and dignity were ensured for every worker”.
Vice Chairperson Haina Jan said the movement reflected unity, equality and constitutional rights, and urged authorities to take immediate and concrete steps to safeguard the welfare and future of women employees across Jammu and Kashmir.
The protest concluded peacefully, with participants pledging to continue their agitation until their demands were addressed in a time-bound manner.
