UDHAMPUR, Feb 6: Udhampur Police foiled two separate attempts of bovine smuggling at Chenani and Tikri, rescuing 17 bovine animals.
A police team of Police Station Chenani intercepted a truck bearing registration number HR55X-3527, coming from Udhampur towards Srinagar during checking at Motor Shed naka. 12 bovine animals were found loaded in the vehicle in a cruel manner for smuggling towards the Kashmir Valley.
The driver disclosed his identity as Haroon, son of Hakam Ali of Gangoh, Saharanpur (UP) and his associate as Altaf Hussain, son of Bashir Ahmed of Krimchi, Udhampur.
Police rescued all the bovines and seized the truck besides arresting both the smugglers. Accordingly FIR No. 17/2026 under Section 223 BNS U/S 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Chenani.
In another case at Tikri, Police signalled a Tata Mobile bearing Registration number JK14L-0848, coming from Jammu towards Srinagar to stop . However, the driver accelerated the vehicle and attempted to flee. After a chase the driver abandoned the vehicle and escaped from the spot.
On checking, the vehicle was found loaded with five bovine animals, tied with ropes in a cruel manner. Police rescued all the animals and seized the vehicle.
In this regard, FIR No. 29/2026 under Section 223 BNS U/S 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Rehambal.
