JAMMU, Jan 28: The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), Jammu chapter, led by Chairman Rakesh Wazir, today submitted a detailed memorandum to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during a pre-budget meeting here, highlighting key issues affecting trade, commerce, industry and tourism in the region.
The memorandum sought urgent policy support to ensure survival, sustenance and revival of local businesses and industrial units.
The Chamber demanded extension of the New Central Sector Scheme beyond September 2024 with a special focus on local entrepreneurs, inclusion of hotel renovation and upgradation of existing industrial units, and restoration of substantial expansion benefits on the lines of the Industrial Package 2017.
Emphasizing tourism-led growth, PHDCCI urged the Government to promote investment in tourism-related infrastructure such as hotels, hospitals, universities and hospitality institutes.
It also sought reimbursement of GST and industrial power tariff to the hotel industry at par with manufacturing units and raised concern over the mandi fee on wheat impacting the flour milling sector.
To boost tourism, the Chamber suggested better utilization of Vaishno Devi pilgrim inflow, beautification of Katra, improved publicity and revival of film tourism.
The Chief Minister heard the issues patiently and assured sympathetic consideration to all the points raised.
