JAMMU, Jan 27: G.M. Shaheen, , Janta Dal United (JDU), Jammu and Kashmir, president has made a strong and urgent appeal to the Union Railway Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to immediately initiate direct train services from Jammu to Srinagar and from Delhi to Srinagar in the larger interest of public convenience, national integration, and regional development.
Shaheen stated that despite significant progress in railway infrastructure in the country, the Kashmir Valley continues to remain deprived of full direct rail connectivity with the rest of India. The absence of direct train services has caused immense hardship to the people of Kashmir who are compelled to rely on road transport which remains uncertain, unsafe, and frequently disrupted due to harsh weather conditions, landslides, and prolonged highway closures. This situation has deeply affected students, patients, business communities, Government employees, and tourists who travel regularly between Kashmir, Jammu, and other parts of the country.
He said that direct train connectivity is not merely a transport facility but a vital necessity for social, economic, and emotional integration. The introduction of direct trains to Srinagar will significantly reduce travel time and cost, provide safe and affordable transport to the common man, promote tourism and trade, and create new employment opportunities for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Party spokesperson, Rakesh Handoo has urged the Government to solve the other pending demands of the package employees while expressing his satisfaction over issuing circular to declare package employees as quasi permanent.
