Srinagar, Jan 25: Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad today said there was no need for the proposed Bijbehara-Pahalgam railway line, describing the project as pointless.
Speaking to reporters in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Ahmad said he had already informed people that the Government was not planning such a move and that no proposal for the railway line had been approved so far.

“I have already told people here and, from what I have learnt, no such proposal for the railway line has been approved by the Government. But there are apprehensions, and regarding that we have to be alert,” he said.
He said that wherever required, he would convey to the Government that there was no need for such a railway line.
“There is no benefit of it, and I am sure that nobody will pressurise us for this,” he said.
MP said he would oppose the project at all appropriate forums.
“I will speak against it wherever needed because this railway line is useless. If needed, I will also seek time from the Railway minister to raise the issue. The Government has not said that this line is necessary, even if surveys have been carried out,” he said.
