Teachings of Guru Ravidass more relevant amid rising social divisions: Sadhotra

JAMMU, Jan 25: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Friday said that the message of Sant Guru Ravidass is more relevant than ever in the present times when society is facing challenges such as growing hatred, intolerance and social divisions.
Addressing a gathering after flagging off a Shobha Yatra organized by Guru Ravidass Sabha at Karwanda in the Jammu North Assembly constituency, Sadhotra said the teachings of the revered saint provide a timeless roadmap for building a humane, just and harmonious society.
Dwelling on the life and teachings of Guru Ravidass, the NC leader said the saint dedicated his life to the upliftment of humanity by preaching equality, love and social justice. He said Guru Ravidass strongly opposed discrimination on the basis of caste, creed or social status and advocated a society founded on dignity and compassion for all.
Highlighting the historical role of saints and sages, he said they have always acted as unifying forces, guiding society towards moral values and collective well-being. He added that spiritual leaders across generations have inspired people to rise above narrow identities and work for the common good.
The former minister said the NC has always stood for unity, brotherhood and an inclusive way of life, in line with the teachings of saints and sages. He urged people, especially the younger generation, to imbibe the teachings of Guru Ravidass in daily life to counter negativity and intolerance.
The event witnessed participation from people of different walks of life. Prominent participants included Ved Parkash Sharma, Ch Subash Chander, Gourav Singh Jamwal, Ashok Kumar, Krishan Lal Chalotra, Pt Surinder Sharma, Balram Singh, Sandeep Manhas and Ashu Sharma. A langar of Kadha Prashad was organized at Bhalwal by NC leader Krishan Lal Chalotra for Shobha Yatra participants.
