PATNA, Jan 24 : RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the recent rape-murder of a NEET student in Patna, saying the PM’s claims on law and order in the state were for all to see.
Yadav was addressing a function to mark the birth anniversary of veteran socialist leader and former chief minister Karpoori Thakur.
“Both PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah repeatedly claimed during Bihar assembly elections that rule of law was established in the state by the Nitish-led NDA government. Such claims sound hollow in the face of the NEET student’s rape-murder,” Tejashwi said, questioning why PM Modi was silent on the incident.
“The NDA had made a series of lofty promises during Bihar assembly elections, including giving Rs 2 lakh each to women for launching their own ventures to earn livelihood,” the RJD leader said, adding a promise was also made to provide one crore jobs in the next five years.
The RJD would keep a close watch on government to see whether promises made by the NDA were being fulfilled, he said.
Yadav also targeted BJP for insulting Karpoori Thakur when he was chief minister. “Despite facing humiliation and harassment from saffron brigades, Thakur never compromised with his principles,” he added.
“Like Thakur, my father Lalu Prasad also did not surrender and compromise with his principles of social justice,” said Tejashwi, adding he, too, would follow their ideals.
The RJD leader said he would not make any comment on the performance of the newly formed Nitish-led NDA government for 100 days. “However, it is surprising that my silence is being interpreted as the end of my career in politics,” he said.
Tejashwi said he would visit all districts of Bihar to revitalise the party’s organisational structure. “Misuse of the system was the reason behind losses of my party in the Bihar elections,” he added.
