JAMMU, Jan 19: Police here have booked two unauthorised travel agents for illegally soliciting passengers at the BC Road Bus Stand and seized a vehicle being used for the unlawful activity.
According to officials, Police Station Bus Stand Jammu, as part of an ongoing drive to regulate travel services and ensure passenger safety, detected the illegal operation during night hours on January 18.
Accordingly, they said, a police team, along with the flying squad and under the supervision of SHO Bus Stand noticed two persons loudly calling out destinations such as Amritsar and Delhi to attract passengers at the bus stand.
On verification, the two persons were identified as Gurvinder Singh and Parveen Kundal, they said.
During checking, the duo failed to produce any valid travel agency licence, office authorisation or route permit, officials further said.
“They were operating without permission and were illegally booking passengers, which was causing public nuisance and posed a risk to the safety and convenience of travelers,” a police official said.
During the operation, one vehicle being used for the unauthorised transport service was seized by the police, he said.
“While one of the accused was arrested on the spot, the other managed to flee from the scene and is currently absconding,” the police official added.
Efforts are on to trace and apprehend the absconding accused, he said.
In this connection, the police official said, an FIR number 08/2026 has been registered at Police Station Bus Stand Jammu under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, with further investigation set into motion.
