Srinagar, Jan 19: The Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, is set to host first-ever dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) summit on healthcare on January 22.
Titled ‘Transforming Healthcare Through Intelligent Technologies in the Kashmir Valley,’ the event will be organised as an official pre-summit under the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
Officials said the initiative aims to examine the responsible and ethical integration of intelligent technologies into the region’s healthcare system and contribute to the development of a long-term AI roadmap for SKIMS.
It has been formally approved and recognised by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, as an authorised pre-summit event.
SKIMS-J&K’s premier tertiary-care academic and research medical institution, a deemed university and the region’s largest healthcare facility-plays a key role in advanced clinical care, biomedical research and competency-based medical education.
With a strong digital health infrastructure, modern simulation centres and advanced research laboratories, organisers said the institute is well positioned to lead the adoption of responsible AI in healthcare delivery, education and innovation.
The summit is being organised by the Skill Development Unit, SKIMS, in collaboration with DataLEADS and the Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU), SKIMS, with support from the Department of Information Technology, Government of J&K.
Speaking about the event, Prof Mohd Ashraf Ganie, Director SKIMS, said the pre-summit would provide a vital platform to deliberate on the ethical, safe and impactful use of artificial intelligence in healthcare.
According to organisers, the summit will bring together healthcare professionals, clinicians, researchers, technologists, policymakers and industry experts.
They said the structured regional dialogue on AI readiness would help build foundational capacity for the ethical and context-specific integration of artificial intelligence into the healthcare ecosystem, particularly in diagnostics, hospital management and medical education.
