No official was injured in the incident as police personnel present at the spot intervened in time and safely evacuated the JDA staff.
Officials said a JDA team, led by two tehsildars and assisted by police personnel, had reached the area following inputs about alleged encroachment on Government land near a graveyard, where a boundary wall was reportedly being raised.
When the team tried to dismantle the illegal construction, a confrontation broke out and the alleged encroachers began pelting stones, damaging the window panes of two official vehicles, they said.
Accordingly, the officials said, additional police personnel were rushed to the spot to control the situation and the JDA officials and machinery were moved to a safer place.
Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the matter by registering a case under relevant sections of law against unidentified individuals at Police Station Satwari and started further investigation into the matter.
