Internet service in Iran’s Tehran down for 4th day

TEHRAN, Jan 12: Internet service in Iran’s capital, Tehran, has been down for more than 70 hours, a Sputnik correspondent reported.
Mobile service is intermittent during the day and is shut off at night, with SMS messaging services are also suspended, he said.
On January 8, Internet monitoring service NetBlocks said that Iran experienced its first nationwide internet shutdown during the current wave of protests and strikes driven by inflation, declining living standards and falling purchasing power.
Protests erupted in Iran in late December 2025 amid concerns about rising inflation triggered by the weakening of the local currency, the Iranian rial. Protesters complained about the volatile exchange rate driving up wholesale and retail prices. Iranian Central Bank governor Mohammad-Reza Farzin resigned and was replaced by Abdolnaser Hemmati. (UNI)
