High speed, low visibility suspected causes of accident

JAMMU, Dec 20: At least 35 people, including students of a private school, their teachers, and other staff members, sustained injuries when their school bus, returning from a picnic in Samba district, crashed into a divider on the Ring Road near Ratnal area of Bishnah town here today.
A school bus (JK02CB-0246) of Pargo Memorial Shiksha Kendra, Gurha Manhasan, Pargwal, returning from a recreational centre, “Buzurgan Da Behda,” near Thandi Khui area of Samba district, met with an accident near Ratnal area on the Ring Road, resulting in injuries to 35 people, mostly school students, a police official said.

After preliminary treatment at the hospital, 16 of the injured-including five teachers, one cook, and 10 students-who required advanced medical care were referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu. Their condition is stated to be out of danger, he said.
The injured teachers have been identified as Saveeta Manhas (35), wife of Arjun Singh of Sajwal, Akhnoor; Bandana Kumari (22), daughter of Tarseem Singh of Meerpur, Pargwal; Saroj Devi (34), wife of Balwinder Singh of Pargwal; Sneha Manhas (25), daughter of Tarsem Singh of Pargwal; and Sohan Singh (35), son of Sham Singh of Pargwal, while the school cook has been identified as Neeraj Singh (52), son of Baldev Singh of Takwal, Pargwal.
The injured students have been identified as Naksh Thakur (10), son of Tarseem Singh of Pargwal; Mavisksha Rajput (6), daughter of Arjun Singh of Gurha Manhasan, Pargwal; Paras Rajput (9), son of Sohan Singh of Pargwal; Abhay Kumar (15), son of Pritam Chand of Pindi Pargwal; Dhanvir Singh (11), son of Parshotam Singh of Pargwal; Jeewan Manhas (16), son of Veer Bahadur Singh of Pargwal; Manvi Sharma (16), daughter of Joginder Kumar of Pargwal; Lakshmi Verma (16), daughter of Raj Kumar of Pargwal; and Mandeep Singh (17) son of Arjun Singh of Pargwal, and Balraj Singh (18) son of Preetam Singh of Pargwal.
Quoting initial investigation, the police official said, “The accident is suspected to have occurred due to high speed of the school bus and low-visibility in the area due to dense fog.”
“However, a case FIR No. 142/2025, under the relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Bishnah to further investigate into the matter,” he said.
