According to a statement issued by the ACB, it received a written complaint alleging that the complainant had submitted an application at the Tehsil Office Shopian seeking equal distribution of ancestral property among four sisters, including his wife and sister-in-law.
“The application was submitted before the Tehsildar Shopian about three months ago and was forwarded to the concerned Patwari for necessary action,” the statement said.
When the complainant approached the Patwari of Patwar Halqa Pinjura, Shopian, the official allegedly demanded Rs 25,000 as bribe in lieu of issuing a favourable report.
“The complainant chose not to pay a bribe and instead approached Anti-Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the Patwari as provided under law,” it said.
The ACB said that after receiving the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand of bribe. Click here to watch video
