REASI, Dec 19: Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organized a Punjabi Kavi Darbar and Shabad Kirtan dedicated to the 350th Martyrdom year of Guru Tegh Bahadur last evening at Dera Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Reasi.
Punjabi poets Jang S. Verman, Balwinder Singh Jammu, Suraj Singh Suraj, Ichpal Singh, Devinder Singh Dhanjal, Rattan Singh, TS Premee, Ragi Bhai Shamsher Singh, and Popinder Singh Paras, senior editor, Sheeraza Punjabi attended the programme.
In his welcome address, Popinder Singh put light on the efforts of the Academy to organize programmes which emphasize on spreading the heritage and values of the communities which help connect young generation from far-flung areas, with the cultural and literary awareness. He also highlighted the teachings, the life and supreme sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur. Paras also highlighted the Academy’s continued commitment to promoting Punjabi language and culture through various literary initiatives. He emphasized that the universal message of compassion, courage and humanity, as taught by Guru Tegh Bahadur, remains deeply relevant in today’s times.
The programme also featured poetry presentations by the poets Jang S. Verman, Balwinder Singh Jammu, Suraj Singh Suraj, Dr M P Singh, Ichhpal Singh, Devinder Singh Dhanjal, Rattan Singh verses dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur and his martyrdom for the cause of suppression of the weaker section. Shabad Kirtan was presented by Bhai Shamsher Singh on this occasion.
An exhibition of Academy’s publications dealing with religious issues was also organized on this occasion, under the supervision of Vipan Sharma and Trilok Singh. TS Premee conducted the proceedings of the programme. The vote of thanks was presented by PS Paras.
