Three wedding hall theft cases worked out, stolen items worth over Rs 22L recovered

JAMMU, Dec 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed they have cracked three marriage hall theft cases registered at Police Stations Gangyal and Channi Himmat and recovered stolen gold, silver and diamond ornaments as well as cash with a collective value of over Rs 22 lakh.
Addressing media persons at Police Station Channi Himmat here, SP Jammu South Ajay Sharma said that two theft incidents were reported from Marriage Halls Royal Park and Regal Park in Greater Kailash area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Gangyal on November 21 and 22, while another theft incident was reported from another marriage hall Chahal Artesia under the jurisdiction of Police Station Channi Himmat on November 22.
He said during the preliminary investigation, it came to the light that an organized gang hailing from two villages of Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh was involved in the thefts.
According to him, the gang would conduct a proper recce to identify the places where gold, silver, and diamond ornaments, as well as Shagun items, including money and gifts exchanged between two families during wedding rituals were kept.

While one group would carry out the reconnaissance, the other would execute the thefts and escape to their home state by frequently changing trains in different states and avoiding the use to mobile phones to avoid the police scrutiny, he said.
The SP Jammu South further stated that following the incidents and obvious public concern in Jammu, the Jammu and Kashmir Police issued an advisory to the marriage hall owners for installation of CCTV cameras and enhancement of security arrangements.
Following registration of FIRs under the relevant sections of the law at Police Station Gangyal and Channi Himmat, he said, five special teams from these Police Stations worked day and night for 15 days, analyzing the crime scenes and scrutinizing around 2000 CCTV cameras across the country, which ultimately helped in cracking the cases.
He said in the two cases registered at Police Station Gangyal under FIR numbers 119/2025 and 121/2025, police recovered Rs 7.20 lakh in cash, one gold set and one diamond ring, with a total value of around Rs 13.5 lakh.
The police officer said that in the third case registered at Police Station Channi Himmat, police recovered Rs 1 lakh in cash along with one gold set and gold bangles worth approximately Rs 9 lakh.
SP Sharma said the investigation continued from November 21 to December 14, and was carried out by five special teams supervised by SDPOs South and East, along with the SHOs concerned, assisted by PSI-level officers and other staff.
While one accused, identified as Narayan Dutt, has been a rrested in connection with the thefts, efforts are on to apprehend the remaining accused, who are at large, the SP Jammu South added.
Meanwhile, investigating another theft case FIR number 172/2025 reported on October 9 from Bhalla Enclave area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Channi Himmat, he said, the police have recovered a gold chain, gold bangles, gold rings, two earrings, one mangalsutra, and silver ornaments worth around Rs 10 lakh.
Two accused individuals, identified as Kalpa Devi and Deepak Kumar of Kalka Colony, have been arrested in connection with this case, he said.
