JAMMU, Dec 14 : Senior National Conference leader Rajesh Gupta today stated that more than a year after the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir, people across the Union Territory are facing serious hardships due to the prolonged absence of a fully empowered, accountable and elected Government backed by clear and functional business rules.
In a statement issued, Gupta said, “Despite the elections, the non-notification of business rules defining the powers and functioning of Ministers, Departments and legislators, has pushed the administration into a state of paralysis.
“Files crawl, decisions are endlessly delayed and governance appears suspended in uncertainty,” he remarked.
The senior NC leader also highlighted growing public frustration over the unresolved issue of Statehood.
He said that despite repeated demands from civil society groups, political parties, business organisations and common citizens, the restoration of Statehood continues to remain elusive.
“On the ground, there is a widespread feeling that people’s voices are not being heard. Many believe that the Lieutenant Governor’s administration remains rigid on this demand, a perception often linked to the Centre’s political approach. Regardless of interpretations, this sentiment is real and is deeply influencing public mood,” he said.
“Governance cannot run indefinitely on temporary arrangements. Democracy demands clarity, accountability and empowered institutions. Without statehood and without business rules for an elected government, it is the common people who continue to pay the price,” he asserted.
