POONCH, Dec 13: A historic and emotionally charged moment marked by patriotism, pride and unity was witnessed in the border district of Poonch with the laying of the foundation stone for a 105-feet-high monumental National Flag at Banpat View Point in Bandichechiyan village.
The foundation stone was formally laid by Major General Kaushik Mukherjee, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 25 Infantry Division. This initiative is not merely the beginning of a construction project, but the creation of a national monument symbolising the courage, resilience and unwavering patriotism of the people living in the border areas.
Set amidst the picturesque valleys of Poonch, the towering Tricolour is envisioned as a lasting source of inspiration for future generations. The project will further strengthen the deep and unbreakable bond between the Indian Army and the local populace.
The monumental National Flag is scheduled to be inaugurated on Republic Day, January 26, 2026. Following its inauguration, Banpat View Point is expected to emerge as a new hub of patriotism and tourism, providing a boost to local culture, identity and regional development.
This inspiring initiative stands as a powerful symbol of unity and national pride, reinforcing the spirit of patriotism in the border belt and leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.
The dignified event witnessed the participation of a large number of villagers, community representatives, civil officials and Army personnel. Poonch Brigade Commander, Brig Sachindra Joshi, Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar, MLA Poonch/Haveli Ajaz Jan and several senior Army officers were present on the occasion.
