SS for seat swapping to douse controversy over MBBS admissions

JAMMU, Nov 28: The Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu and Kashmir unit has suggested seat swapping (transferring students between medical colleges) to douse the growing controversy over the admission list of medical colleges run by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board where 42 seats were allotted for the Muslim community out of a total of 50 seats and to prevent uncertainty over the future of students.
The Shiv Sena also demanded that Hindus be granted minority status and educational institutions run by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board should be declared as minority institutions on priority basis.
In a press conference held today at the party’s State Central Office, its State president, Manish Sahni stated that he is not in favor of creating confusion and jeopardizing the future of students from any community, and does not want to push Jammu toward a new movement like the one in 2008, the Shri Amarnath movement.
However, admitting people from other communities, bypassing Hindus, into colleges and universities run by Hindu temples and monasteries is absolutely intolerable.
Sahni said that despite the BJP Government at the Center, Jammu and Kashmir being a Union Territory, and a former BJP leader being the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir who is also the Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, all this continued.
Even now, instead of finding a solution, political gains are being made by inflating the controversy. Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah’s statement that Kashmiri candidates will be encouraged to seek admission in countries like Bangladesh or Turkey is also fueling the fire and furthering his vote bank.
Sahni said that while the Modi Government has been in power for the past 11 years, there is no University in India that claims to be pro-Hindu.
Sahni said that priority for Hindus in educational institutions run by Hindu temples and monasteries is their right. This minority status to educational institutions run by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board should be granted without delay.
He demanded that the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir should issue special instructions to deal the current situation by ‘swapping’ seats (transferring students between medical colleges).
