Cluster University Jammu hosts creative workshop on Basohli Art

JAMMU, Nov 27: The Apex Body of SPARSH (ABS), Cluster University of Jammu, under the patronage of Prof K S Chandrasekar, Vice Chancellor, and the guidance of Dr Vandana Khajuria, Chairperson ABS, organized a one-day workshop on Basohli Miniature Art at GGM Science College, Jammu.
The event was held in collaboration with the Kalamkari Centre Society and featured distinguished artists Subash Langeh, Rajni Langeh, and Purnima Chaudhary (Patron, Kalamkari Centre Society) as resource persons.
The workshop sought to promote skill development, heritage education, and creative empowerment among students. Participants were introduced to the traditional aesthetics of Basholi Miniature Art through live demonstrations, hands-on training, and expert guidance.
The resource persons meticulously explained the use of traditional materials, colour preparation, brushes, and intricate painting techniques, enabling students to create their own miniature art pieces.
Ankur Mahajan, Registrar, Cluster University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Prof Romesh K Gupta attended as the guest of honour. The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of all constituent colleges and schools of the university, reflecting the institution’s commitment to fostering cultural literacy, gender inclusion, and equal opportunities.
In her address, the chief guest emphasized that such workshops not only enrich creative skills but also serve as an important medium for preserving traditional art forms for future generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Romesh K Gupta highlighted the importance of integrating traditional art with modern education. He stressed that exposure to such art forms cultivates patience, creativity, and cultural pride among students. He further encouraged the university to continue hosting similar platforms that nurture talent and inspire young minds to explore India’s diverse artistic traditions.
Earlier, Dr. Vandana Khajuria, Chairperson ABS, outlined the vision and objectives of the workshop. The event concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks by Dr Meenu Sharma, Member Secretary, SPARSH.
