Police sources said 19-year-old Mohammad Sajid of Reasi, who had been living in Bathindi with his family for the past 2 to 3 years, and was preparing for the NEET examination, initially came in contact with the Pakistani handlers through social media platforms.
He was gradually convinced to shift to the Session app for further communication in view of the security features of the app, they said.
During the investigation into the white-collar terrorist module responsible for the Delhi blast as well, agencies had reported the use of the Session app for encrypted communication with handlers operating from across the border.
Police sources further said that during Sajid’s questioning, it came to light that he had been fully radicalised by the time of his arrest and was planning to carry out a terror act, though he had not yet been assigned any specific task.
Earlier in a statement, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the accused was being radicalised online and was allegedly planning a terror act.
“It has also surfaced that he was in touch over mobile phone with certain numbers based in Pakistan and other foreign countries,” the statement said.
Police added that the suspect’s digital devices have been seized and are being examined by experts from the FSL and other agencies.
Meanwhile, the accused has been remanded to six days’ police custody as a detailed investigation is underway.
