JAMMU, Nov 18: Senior BJP leader and former Minister, Bali Bhagat launched a sharp attack on People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference (NC) president, Dr Farooq Abdullah, accusing them of providing political cover to terrorist-linked doctors and weakening the nation’s fight against terror.
Speaking at a public interaction on Monday, Bhagat said that their “soft corner for anti-national forces” exposes a mindset that has caused immense harm to Jammu & Kashmir over decades.
He alleged that their statements and behaviour repeatedly demonstrates sympathy for individuals involved in anti-national activities, thereby encouraging a dangerous mindset in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bhagat said that while Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s Government is taking decisive action against terrorists and their networks, leaders like Mehbooba and Farooq continue to “shield those connected with terror under the guise of politics,” which, he warned, poses a serious threat to peace and stability.
Bali Bhagat strongly criticised Mehbooba Mufti for what he described as her “consistent tendency to shield those involved in terror-related activities.”
He remarked, “Mehbooba Mufti continues to sympathise with terrorists. Instead of standing with the families of victims and supporting the security forces, she chooses to defend those who have brought pain, destruction and instability to our region.”
He added that such statements from a former Chief Minister only embolden extremist forces and weaken the confidence of people who want peace.
Bhagat also accused the NC veteran of making irresponsible remarks that give legitimacy to individuals associated with extremist networks.
“Farooq Abdullah is now sympathising with `doctor terrorists’. This kind of politics has damaged Jammu and Kashmir for years and continues to mislead the youth”, he said.
Bhagat stressed that national leaders must act responsibly and avoid rhetoric that could be exploited by terror groups operating from across the border.
