New Delhi, Nov 4: The Government of India has constituted the Eighth Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) to review and recommend revisions in pay, allowances, pensions, and other benefits for Central Government employees, defence personnel, and other associated categories of staff.
The Commission will be chaired by Justice (Retd.) Ranjana Prakash Desai, with Prof. Pulak Ghosh serving as Part-Time Member and Shri Pankaj Jain as Member-Secretary. The body has been tasked with evaluating the current structure of emoluments to ensure they align with contemporary functional needs, efficiency, and fiscal prudence.
The 8th CPC will also review existing allowances, retirement benefits, and incentive structures, aiming to attract talent to public service while promoting accountability and performance-linked rewards. Additionally, it will assess pension and gratuity systems for employees both under and outside the National Pension System (NPS).
Headquartered in New Delhi, the Commission has been directed to submit its recommendations within 18 months. It may also release interim reports as and when required during its functioning. (KNC)
