SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Police today arrested five people allegedly involved in gambling and seized stake money along with playing cards in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
A police spokesperson said that acting on a reliable tip-off, a team from Police Station Shopian raided a gambling site at Deegam Nagbal and caught the suspects red-handed. He said they were identified as Adil Rehman Wachkoo of Hergam Shopian, Suhail Ahmad Bhat of Keegam, Tariq Ahmad Bhat of Babmohalla Shopian, Sajad Ahmad Ganie of Berthipora, and Sajad Ahmad Wani of Mughalpora Keegam.
The spokesperson said police seized Rs.45,000 in stake money and a set of playing cards from their possession. “The accused have been taken into custody, and a case under FIR No. 224/2025 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant provisions of law,” the spokesperson said.
