JAMMU, Oct 3: The workers of Shiv Sena (UBT) under the leadership of their J&K president, Manish Sahni staged a protest demonstration here today against the privatization of electricity.

The protesters were holding placards with slogans against the prepaid system of electricity.
They also torched the effigies of smart and prepaid meters.
Speaking on the occasion, Manish Sahni said during elections campaign NC leaders had promised 200 units of free electricity but now preparations are underway to implement prepaid system for power consumers.
“Approximately 3.5 lakh meters have been converted to prepaid mode and prepaid collections are reportedly scheduled to begin in November,” he maintained adding that the prepaid system is a step towards electricity privatization.
The Shiv Sena leader said that J&K is a major producer of electricity and its people have the primary right to the electricity generated here.
He further said that the prepaid system will force people to rely entirely on smart phones and cases of cyber frauds using prepaid meters have also been surfaced. Sahani appealed to all political and social organizations to come out on streets in solidarity.
Meenakshi Bakshi, Sanjeev Kohli, Vikas Bakshi, Raju Kapoor, Aditya Mahajan, Vinod Verma, Jasbir Singh, Ganesh Kumar, Dheeraj Kohli, Rakesh Kohli and many others were also present in the protest.
