SKUAST-Jammu inks MoU with KNU of South Korea

JAMMU, Sept 30: For global academic excellence, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kangwon National University (KNU) of Chuncheon, South Korea.
The landmark agreement, formalized by Prof B N Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and Prof Jeong Jaeyeon, President of Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, South Korea aims to foster robust collaboration in key areas including to promote academic and educational exchanges, faculties and students exchange program and joint research programs.
Prof Sung-Jin Lee, Dean, College of Animal Life Sciences and Prof Junghoon Choi, Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine from Kangwon National University and Prof Neelesh Sharma, from SKUAST-Jammu were also present during this ceremony. Kangwon National University (KNU) is largest university in the South Korea and established in the 1947. It provides the platform to more than 2000 international students from different countries. KNU is having 18 colleges, 63 departments, 10 post-graduate schools and 55 research institutes with 31500 students and 1950 faculty and staff.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof B N Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu said that this MoU with Kangwon National University opens vital channels for the SKUAST faculty and students to gain global exposure, adopt best practices from a technologically advanced nation like South Korea and collaborate on solutions to shared challenges like food security and climate change.
Prof Jeong, President of KNU said that the collaboration would significantly enhance KNU’s research in unique agro-climatic zones and foster deeper cultural ties between the two countries.
The collaboration is seen as a major catalyst for improving the quality and global relevance of agricultural education in the Union Territory directly aligning with national policies focused on excellence in higher education.
The tie-up is anticipated to strengthen the region’s capacity for innovation in agriculture, ultimately benefiting farmers and the local agri-economy.
During this visit, Prof Tripathi also delivered a keynote lecture in the international symposium on the “Innovations and Recent Developments in Animal Health and Production”, organized by Kangwon National University, Chuncheon, South Korea.
