Srinagar, Aug 2: An Indian Reserve Police (IRP) constable was critically injured after he was attacked by militants with an axe before decamping with his service rifle in Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said that IRP constable of 6th battalion, Firdous Ahmad Baba (belt no. 683), who was posted at the main market in Pattan town was attacked by a group of militants with an axe. The militants managed to flee with the policeman’s INSAS rifle.
Police said that Baba received serious head and neck injuries and has been immediately shifted to nearby hospital where he was shifted to SKIMS hospital Soura, Srinagar for treatment. The condition of the injured policeman is said to be critical.
Soon after the attack, Army’s 29 RR, SOG, CRPF and police cordoned off the whole area and launched massive searches to nab the suspected militants.
This is second snatching in two days. On August 1, militants snatched service rifle of a constable, posted on guard duty at the residence of a Session’s Judge Shopian, Sujat Ali Khan at Qamarwari area in outskirt’s of Srinagar city.
Security has been put on high alert across Srinagar city, few volatile parts of North and South Kashmir following series of militant attacks. Police and CRPF is conducting surprise checks of vehicles for suspected militants.
In the meantime, the massive operation launched in Keran sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district two days ago in which four militants were killed continued today.
The 7 Garhwal, 222 Field Regiment, 15 Rashtriya Rifles and 16 Grenadiers of Army are conducting massive searches for two to three militants who were part of the group whose four members were killed in past three days.
