Sir,
The ongoing debate in Jammu and Kashmir around the restoration of statehood is understandable, given its symbolic value. However, past experiences remind us that statehood alone did not guarantee good governance. Rampant corruption, delayed projects, and lack of accountability plagued the system, leaving citizens disillusioned.
The real transformation in recent years has come through digital governance. Online access to property records, certificates, welfare schemes, and grievance redressal has reduced bureaucratic hurdles and increased transparency. For a geographically challenging region like J&K, these digital systems ensure accessibility and efficiency.
Instead of solely demanding a return to the old model of statehood, J&K should pioneer a Digital State. This would empower citizens, reduce corruption, enhance security, and open new avenues for youth in digital entrepreneurship and remote work. True dignity lies in efficient governance that serves people, not just symbolic political structures.
