Drug peddler arrested

UDHAMPUR, Sept 1: Police arrested a drug peddler at Chenani and recovered 6.94 grams of heroin like substance from his possession.
A team of Police Station Chenani, led by SHO Raghuvir Singh, while performing routine traffic checking at Naka point Chenani, stopped a car bearing registration number JK06C-4420,which was coming from Jammu side.
During frisking of the person driving the car, 6.94 grams of heroin-like narcotic substance was recovered from his possession. He disclosed his identity as Altaf Hussain son of Abdul Qayoom, resident of Luddu, Tehsil Gandoh, District Doda.
In this regard, FIR No. 84/2025 U/S 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Chenani and investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, according to a Police spokesman, Udhampur Police registered 85 cases under the NDPS Act from January to August 2025. A total of 124 drug peddlers were arrested, including 114 under NDPS and 10 under PIT NDPS/PSA. 36 vehicles used in narcotic smuggling were seized, and 07 pharmacy shops were sealed for violating H1 drug norms.
Further, financial action led to the freezing of 54 bank accounts linked to drug traffickers, involving Rs 17,47,812. Narcotics worth Rs 5.69 crore were seized, including heroin, charas, poppy straw, and ganja.
Property worth Rs 5.27 crore was attached under NDPS provisions- including trucks, cars, bikes, flats, houses, and land. Additionally, 2 kanal 10 marla of illicit opium cultivation was destroyed in Panchari.
