JAMMU, Aug 30: The members of Motor Parts Dealers Association (MPDA), Transport Nagar, Jammu today held protest against J&K UT administration for damage caused to their shops due to floods.
The protesters pointed out that the plinths of shops in Yard number 7 washed away due to recent flash floods as the retaining walls of Nallah were not strong enough and poor work was executed on them. They said that the Association was trying to convey this to the concerned authorities like Divisional Administration, JDA, JMC & UEED since last three years and officials from these agencies also conducted tours to assess the ground realities but no action by any authority was taken in this regard. The traders have suffered a lot due to callous attitude of the concerned officers at the helm of affairs.
It is shameful for the administration that over a dozen of shopkeepers by contribution have started immediate restoration work there. The locals were not satisfied by the type of work executed posing threat to the life and property of the people.
Recently JMC Health Officer and VC JDA Jammu along with engineering wing visited but no immediate work initiated.
They sought intervention of Chief Secretary to issue the time bound directions to the concerned agencies by providing sufficient funds for early remedies, providing some relief to the shopkeepers of Transport Nagar Jammu and the general public so that the property and precious lives could be saved.
They also sought an anti- encroachment drive in and around Transport Nagar Jammu, regularly by joint team of JDA, JMC, traffic police and law enforcement teams to discourage land grabbers.
The protest was led by Rajinder Kakkar, President, Motor Parts Dealers Association, Transport Nagar Jammu along with MP Singh, Sanjay Dogra, Jaswinder Singh, besides a large gathering of shopkeepers of the area.
