JAMMU, Aug 23: Reaffirming the Modi Government’s commitment to the welfare of the poor, Dr. Pardeep Mahotra, Media Incharge, J&K BJP, stated that over 27 crore people have been lifted out of poverty in the past 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Citing the World Poverty Atlas, Dr. Mahotra highlighted that extreme poverty in India has nearly been eliminated, with the poverty rate falling from 16.2% in 2011 to just 2.3% in 2022-a drop from 20.6 crore to 3.36 crore people living in extreme poverty.
He credited a multi-pronged strategy involving job creation, massive capital expenditure, and targeted welfare schemes. Initiatives like Direct Benefit Transfers, MGNREGA, PM Awas Yojana, PM Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat and Jan Dhan Yojana were key in ensuring inclusive development and transparency.
Dr. Mahotra emphasized that the rise in GDP, the expanding middle class and improved rural infrastructure have fostered a consumption-driven economy. He said the BJP-led NDA Government’s pro-poor, pro-development agenda is steadily turning Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a poverty-free, empowered India into a reality.
