JAMMU, Aug 4: Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) today arrested a gangster and an inter-state weapon smuggler in connection with a firing incident that took place earlier this year at Swaran Palace in the Miran Sahib area.

A police official said the incident occurred on February 23, 2025 during a public function.
Accordingly, he said, a case FIR number 27/2025 under Sections 109/3(5) of the BNS and 3/25 Arms Act was registered at Police Station Miran Sahib, and two accused were arrested, with recovery of two pistols from their possession.
Two other individuals involved in this incident managed to flee, he said.
The police official added that following sustained efforts by SI Ajesh Singh Jamwal under the supervision of Inspector Jai Pal Sharma, SHO Miran Sahib, two more accused were arrested today.
One of them, identified as Balwinder Singh alias Goru Jatt, a resident of Ranjri in Vijaypur, Samba, was found in possession of a pistol and live cartridges, he said.
The police official said further investigation led to the arrest of an inter-state weapon smuggler, Kaif Ahmed, a resident of Siwan, Bihar currently studying B.Tech at the Central University of Jammu.
Kaif is believed to be a key supplier of illegal arms to criminal elements in Jammu and Samba districts, he said.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway as police expect more arrests and weapon recoveries in the coming days.
