JAMMU, July 19: Strongly condemning use of police force to prevent the Congress march in Srinagar today, senior leaders of the party have announced to take out a similar march in Jammu on Sunday for restoration of Statehood to J&K.

Talking to media persons at the party headquarters, here today, Congress leaders alleged that police forcibly prevented the protestors inside the gate of the Congress HQ in Srinagar leading to scuffle in which the PCC president Tariq Hameed Karra and others received minor injuries.
“We strongly condemn the action of the administration and the police against the peaceful protestors who were going to submit memorandum to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, addressed to Prime Minister, seeking restoration of Statehood to J&K,” said Ravinder Sharma, chief spokesperson of JKPCC, who was accompanied by Raman Bhalla , Working President, Ved Mahajan, Ex-MLC and Rajnish Sharma – Treasurer.
Unfazed by the police action, the senior Congress leaders, however, announced to go ahead with the proposed march in Jammu, tomorrow towards Raj Bhawan from Shaheedi Chowk to submit the memorandum to the Prime Minister for Statehood through the Lt Governor and its Delhi Chalo call of the party from Jammu on Monday afternoon for Parliament Gherao in support of the demands.
The Congress leaders appealed to all political, social, trade and other organizations and individuals who support the cause to join the Congress struggle and movement in this regard, tomorrow and thereafter in any manner they choose.
“It is a common cause of the people and they should support the movement as the Central Govt and BJP are silent over the promise even after six years of the downgrading of the historical State into a UT,” said Raman Bhalla.
He announced that the protest march tomorrow shall start from Shaheedi Chowk Jammu at 11.30 AM towards Raj Bhawan while scheduled departure of the buses carrying senior leaders including former Ministers, Legislators and others who have registered themselves for the 21st July Parliament Gherao, will be 2:30 PM from Maharaja Hari Singh Park Jammu.
“Even as hundreds of leaders and activists have shown their desire to take part in `Delhi Chalo’ but the party has restricted the numbers to a manageable strength on the basis of prior registration,” said the Congress leaders.
Sanjeev Panda and Kapil Singh, Spokesperson PCC, were also present in the press conference.
