Talking to media persons here, today along with party spokesperson Abhijeet Jasrotia and media in charge Dr Pardeep Mahotra, Sunil Sethi regretted that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who is supposed to respect law and order machinery has himself broken the law by jostling with policemen and scaling a wall to participate in July 13 function.
Sethi said on the one hand Omar Abdullah is demanding that police and law and order maintenance should by under his Government and on the other hand he himself breaks the law which is unfortunate.
The BJP leader said it is unbecoming for a Chief Minister who is meant to respect law and order machinery and rule of law is breaking the same. He is the first CM in the entire country who has himself violated law and order, he added.
Sethi said it is totally unfortunate that July 13 of 1931 is equated with Jallianwala Bagh massacre of freedom fighters protesting against tyranny of British rulers. Those killed in Jallianwala Bagh were on peaceful protest while in Kashmir on July 13 in 1931 over 5000 frenzy mob with communal and anti national motives assembled in front of Central Jail Srinagar to free the prisoners lodged there who were involved in anti national activities.
To maintain law and order the police was left with no alternative but to resort to firing in which some people got killed. The police was justified in its action as it could not allow the breakdown of law and order machinery, he added.
Sethi said on July 14 next day the mob attacked minority Pandits in the Valley and torched their houses. He said Omar Abdullah’s statement tantamount to glorify the people who indulged in violence and rioting and decry police which tried to maintain law and order. “This way he wants to take J&K back to anarchy’’, Sethi added.
The BJP leader also asked that media to play a positive role and highlight such acts to maintain the freedom of press.
The BJP leader said though as CM he (Omar) is supposed to act and work in the interests of people but instead he is trying to raise emotive issues to mislead the people. He alleged that NC for seven long decades has misled the people of Kashmir by raking up such emotive issues.
