SRINAGAR, July 14: The academic future of nearly 160 students enrolled at the Hayat Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research in Lethpora, in Pulwama district, hangs in the balance as the college allegedly lacks mandatory annual approvals from the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) for the past three academic years.

Addressing a press conference here, the students said, established in 2021-22, the institute secured its initial PCI approval that year. However, as per PCI norms, the institute must submit an “F-form” annually for each new batch to enable inspection and receive a fresh approval letter for student admissions.
Despite this requirement, the college reportedly failed to obtain approvals for the 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25 batches, raising serious concerns about the validity of their courses and students’ eligibility for pharmacy licenses. “We were assured in April that the documents would be submitted and asked to wait for a month. Since then, there has been no positive response from the college,” said a group of distressed students.
Students allege that they approached the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar-the examination body for the institute-and the J&K Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE), which facilitated admissions. However, both bodies reportedly failed to provide clarity or assistance.
