“The Srinagar Police also tweeted this advisory, warning that any breach of the order would lead to strict legal action under applicable laws. The District Administration Srinagar has denied permission to all applicants intending to proceed towards Khawaja Bazar, Nowhatta on 13th July 2025 (Sunday),” the Srinagar Police said.
It said that the general public is hereby advised to strictly comply with these instructions and refrain from violating the orders issued by district administration. “Any violation of these orders shall invite strict legal action under relevant provisions of law,” it said.
The ruling National Conference (NC) described the denial of permission as deeply unfortunate and said no restriction can erase the truth.
“It is deeply unfortunate that on a day of profound historical and emotional significance for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the District Administration has chosen to bar peaceful tributes to the martyrs of 13th July 1931 at Khawaja Bazar, Nowhatta,” the NC spokesman and MLA Zadibal Tanveer Sadiq posted on X.
Meanwhile, sensing that the administration won’t allow people to visit to “martyrs’ graveyard” on July 13, PDP leader Iltija Mufti today paid floral tribute at the graveyard.
“Knowing that tomorrow we’d be prevented from moving out, managed to pay tribute to our martyrs who laid down their lives on 13th July 1931 for democracy. Their memory is being wilfully erased yet their voices echo in every Kashmiri’s heart that refuses to bow & dares to hope,” she posted on X.
Several political parties including ruling NC had sought permission from the district administration to visit “martyrs graveyard” on July 13.
Earlier, political parties, including NC, PDP, and Apni Party (JKAP), had called for the resumption of the official ceremony to mark July 13 as “Martyrs’ Day”.
