Man gets six months jail for eve-teasing

JAMMU, July 8: Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Jammu, Preet Simran Kour Grover, has sentenced a man to six months of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 in a 12-year-old eve-teasing case.
The accused, Ranjeet Kumar, a resident of Rehari Colony, was convicted under Section 354 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) for using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a woman.
The case dates back to June 21, 2013, when the victim, a married woman, approached the Sarwal Police Post and alleged that Kumar had forcefully held her arm, kissed her neck in public, and used obscene language.
She further stated that the accused repeatedly harassed her over the phone and made indecent remarks.
According to the complaint, the incident took place in a lane near Baby Caterers in Rehari Colony. During the scuffle, the woman’s gold chain was broken.
The police registered FIR number 86/2013 at Bakshi Nagar Police Station based on the victim’s statement and started the investigation.
After a prolonged trial, the court found Ranjeet Kumar guilty of outraging the modesty of the complainant.
While delivering the judgment, the CJM observed that the prosecution had successfully established the charges under Section 354 RPC.
Accordingly, the court convicted the accused and awarded the sentence
