SRINAGAR, July 4: A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comprising Dr Ashok Koul , BJP general secretary (organization), Dr Devinder K Manyal, BJP general secretary and MLA Ramgarh, Satish Sharma (MLA Billawar), Surinder Bhagat (MLA Marh) and Advocate Salman (district president, BJP Srinagar) met with the Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, here today.
The delegation submitted a detailed memorandum regarding the long standing issues faced by the farmers (Allottees), Displaced persons of 1965 and 1971 wars, as well as refugees from West Pakistan, who were settled in the border areas of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Akhnoor, and other regions of Jammu & Kashmir.
The Union Minister was apprised that despite being legal allottees of agricultural land since their displacement, these families have been deprived of benefits under Central Government schemes like PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, Kisan Credit Card (KCC), and Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) and a number of subsidy schemes.
Dr Manyal urged the Minister to intervene and ensure that these genuine cultivators are recognized as legal farmers and included in all farmer-centric welfare schemes being implemented under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ashok Koul and Surinder Bhagat also echoed the appeal and emphasized that it is a matter of justice for thousands of border farmers who continue to be excluded despite their rightful claims.
In response, Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured the delegation that the matter is being taken seriously. He stated that the Union Ministry has already requested the J&K administration to submit a comprehensive report identifying such land allottees. He said, once verified, appropriate documents will be issued, and eligible families will be included in all applicable centrally sponsored agricultural welfare schemes.
The Union Minister further assured the delegation that he would personally take up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ensure that the long-overdue benefits reach the affected communities at the earliest.
