JAMMU, June 30: Jammu and Kashmir Police have booked a notorious drug peddler from the Camp Gole Gujral area under the stringent PIT-NDPS Act and lodged him in District Jail Udhampur.
The accused, Mahavir Singh alias Appu of Ranjitpur Camp Gole Gujral, was wanted in several narcotics cases registered at Police Post Pounichak under the jurisdiction of Domana Police Station, a police official said.
Known for repeatedly securing bail, the accused didn’t mend his ways and continued to indulge in the drug trade, the police official said.
“To prevent further criminal activity, a detailed dossier for his detention under the PIT-NDPS Act was prepared and submitted to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu,” he said.
After approval of the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, he said, a team led by SHO Domana, under the supervision of SDPO Domana and SP Rural Jammu, apprehended the accused after strenuous efforts.
He was later lodged in District Jail Udhampur, the police official said.
