Gender equality and women empowerment along with other related issues are being hotly debated at all fora of international community. In our country women’s rights, safety and security and gender equality issues have been extensively talked about in the civil society circles and in the media. At Government level, all possible activity is underway to enforce the rights of women and maintain their status, dignity and rights.
Mrs. Usha Vohra, the First Lady has effectively dealt with the issue in the session of the India CEO Forum of the International Market Assessment (IMA) held at Gulmarg. She has touched upon a very crucial and sensitive subject viz. the impact of two and a half decade long turmoil in State on the women, young and old. It is important that the nature and extent of the impact on the psyche of womenfolk in State is understood and remedial measures are explored. There are many problems for our women which society needs to take into account for resolution. Who can deny that the key to social, moral and economic development is in the hands of women? Well educated and well informed women can bring about social revolution. We in the state have to work very hard to bring awareness to our vast female population in rural areas who are still discriminated against and denied parity with men folk in terms of rights and opportunities. We have no doubt made some progress in this context but still lot more remains to be done.
