Restoration of pristine glory of river Tawi demanded

JAMMU, July 6: President of Tawi Andolan Committee, Adv. Chander Mohan Sharma said that only beautification of river banks, early completion of lake and restoration of pristine glory of river Tawi as “Suraj Putri” can save Jammu city to a great extent from economical setback being caused to it due to running of Katra bound Train and buses directly to holy shrine.
Jammu city is known as City of Temples and scores of temples located on the banks of river Tawi have potential of the revival of religious tourism if, the Government and the public jointly plan and make efforts in this direction. Sharma was addressing the gathering of Tawi- environment activists who gathered at Vikram Chowk Ghat to perform weekly Sandhya Arti of Surya Putri.
He demanded immediate release of funds for completion of lake and construction of channels for carrying filthy water on both sides of the river to protect river water from pollution. He said that at present Tawi Water has become so poisonous that it can cause the death of any living being if it is consumed upto a particular quantity.
He further demanded that abandoned ponds like one located near RRL and other located behind Shiva temple at Bikram Chowk can be developed as lakes and spots for water games.
