JAMMU, June 4: The Jammu & Kashmir Congress today held a massive protest against BJP leader and MLA Vikram Randhawa for his deeply derogatory and shameful remarks against UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and the dignity & faith of all women.
In a strong display of outrage, ‘an effigy of Vikram Randhawa was burnt in the protest led by senior Congress women leaders”, symbolizing the anger and hurt caused by his offensive language.
Joined by senior PCC leaders, the women leaders raised powerful slogans and demanded that BJP high command should apologise from CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for the derogatory utterances of Vikram Randhawa besides action against him.
His remarks are, not only outrageous and shameful to Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, but to every woman of the country. They called his remarks an insult to the dignity of Indian women and an attack on the values that define Indian society.
Addressing the press, Namrta Sharma, senior Congress leader, condemned the remarks and demanded the ‘immediate suspension of Randhawa’. She stated, Sonia Gandhi lost her husband, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, in service of this nation . The Sindoor she wears is not a symbol of tradition alone, but a mark of sacrifice, courage, and devotion to India. Mixing such sacred sentiments with your dirty political agenda reflects the moral bankruptcy of BJP leaders like Randhawa.
Zahida Khan also condemned the remarks, stating that such language has no place in any civilised society.
PCC working president Raman Bhalla, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma and ex- MLC Ved Mahajan led slogans condemning the BJP’s regressive and misogynistic mindset. They called upon the BJP high command to issue a public apology and take strict action against Vikram Randhawa to prevent further erosion of political discourse.
Senior leaders Kanta Bhan, Narinder Sharma, Satish Sharma, Amrit Bali, Inderjeet Kour, Parveen Akhtar, Anuradha Sharma, Sanjeev Panda, Ch Dwarka, Vijay Shastri, Neeraj Gupta, Sahil Sharma, Rajveer Singh, Balbir Balli, Ricky Dalotra and others were also present.
Congress and Youth Congress workers assembled at Mishriwala in Jammu North constituency, which falls under District Jammu Rural and burnt the effigy of BJP MLA, Vikram Randhawa.
The protest witnessed participation from senior Congress leaders and youth activists, including District Incharge Jammu Rural, Hari Singh Chib, Yogesh Sawhney, Coordinator for District Jammu Rural, Maan Singh Rathore, Incharge Youth Congress Jammu and Kashmir, among others.
Chib and Sawhney strongly condemned the BJP leader’s offensive comments and said that such statements not only reflect the BJP’s anti-women mindset but are also an insult to the democratic values of the nation. “We will not tolerate any attempt to defame our respected leaders. Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have earned the love and respect of the people through decades of dedicated public service,” he said.
