Russian Deputy Foreign Minister calls AI Industry overheated

MOSCOW, June 1: The global artificial intelligence (AI) industry has been “overheated” by technology companies rushing to market their solutions, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin told Sputnik.
“Indeed, the attention to artificial intelligence on international platforms is currently very high and continues to increase. The topic is kind of overheated,” Vershinin said.
The deputy minister explained that AI frenzy was largely driven by state-backed developers promoting their AI-based solutions.
“Hence the attempts by certain countries to discuss the development and regulation of artificial intelligence in narrow formats that exclude most countries of the Global South and the East,” the diplomat said.
Russia insists on addressing AI challenges within the relevant United Nations’ bodies, which would ensure equal participation of all countries, Vershinin said.
Digital sovereignty, Russian tech initiatives and AI will be the focus of the inaugural Global Digital Forum, which is set to take place in Nizhny Novgorod from June 5-6, the diplomat said. The forum will bring together international and regional organizations, government officials and IT industry leaders from 115 countries.
