LEH, May 28: A high-level delegation from Nubra, comprising councillors, political leaders, and community representatives, met with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired), to request his intervention in securing the inclusion of the Shatse Taknak Bridge over the Shayok River in the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) sanctions scheme.
The delegation was led by the Deputy Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk, and included former Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal. They highlighted the strategic and developmental importance of the Shatse Taknak Bridge, describing it as one of the most vital infrastructure projects for the region. The project, which has long been on the priority list of LAHDC Leh, was notably absent from the recently announced CRIF-sanctioned initiatives.
Expressing concern over the Bridge’s exclusion, the delegation emphasized the need for immediate intervention to ensure the project’s inclusion in the scheme. In response, the LG sought clarity from the Secretary of the Public Works Department (PWD), Michael D’Souza, on the reasons behind the omission and the potential path forward.
During a telephonic discussion with the LG, Michael D’Souza assured that the Shatse Taknak Bridge project would be considered in the supplementary proposal being prepared by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in coordination with the LAHDCs.
Reiterating his commitment to regional development, the LG assured the delegation that the matter would be taken up on a priority basis and pursued in the upcoming supplementary proposal.
Among those present at the meeting were Commissioner/ Secretary to LG, Dr L Franklin; Councillor Tigar, Rigzin Lundup; Councillor Panamik, Tsering Sangdup; Chief Engineer PWD, Abdul Mutalib; Deputy Secretary PWD, Jigmat Raftan; former Councillor, Rigzin Wangdus; LBA Nubra president, Nambardar Charassa; as well as youth representatives from the region.
