JAMMU, Apr 26: Police today filed a charge-sheet in the Gataru murder case before the Sub Judge Court, Jammu.

The charge-sheet pertains to FIR number 14/2025 registered under Sections 103(1), 49, 111(2)(a), 304 of the BNS and Sections 3/4/25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Nowabad.
A police official said the charge-sheet was filed against eight arrested accused – Harsh Singh, Abhey Partap Singh, Mithun Kumar, Shiv Kumar, Amit Kumar, Arun Kumar, Yudhvir Singh, and Ruhan Farooq – all residents of Jammu, Samba, and Ramban districts.
He said police have also requested the court to initiate trial in absentia against three accused- Vikas Slathia, Vikramjeet Singh, and Bodh Raj-who remain absconding.
“A separate charge-sheet is being prepared for two juveniles involved in the case, which will be submitted before the Juvenile Justice Board, Jammu, next week,” the police official said.
Pertinently, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Inspector Deepak Pathania, SHO Police Station Nowabad, was constituted under the directions of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh to probe the killing of gangster Sumit Jandial alias Gataru in January this year near Jewel Chowk area by the rival gang.
The SIT, working under the supervision of DySP Police Component Jammu Rohit Chadgal and overall supervision of SP Police Component Jammu Kameshwar Puri, conducted extensive raids across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi to apprehend the accused.
During the investigation, the police seized three vehicles, four pistols along with several magazines and ammunition, and two sharp-edged weapons linked to the accused.
“The investigation was challenging but our teams worked round-the-clock to collect vital evidence and ensure the arrest of key accused,” a senior police officer said.
So far, the involvement of 13 accused persons has been established during the probe, he said, and assured that the investigation is continuing with full seriousness to bring all the culprits to the justice and maintain public confidence.
