JAMMU, Mar 23: Residents of Bavliana have demanded immediate reconstruction of a culvert over the canal passing through Panchayat Bavliana, as it suffered damage on Saturday, causing major inconvenience to daily commuters.
Former Chairman of Jammu Municipal Corporation and general secretary of the State Congress Committee, Satish Sharma, along with former Sarpanch Shamsher Singh Sheri, former Panch Karan Samrat and former Panch Prakash Singh, visited the site with dozens of concerned locals.
Expressing their displeasure over the state of the culvert, they criticized the department’s approach and urged immediate action. Satish Sharma emphasized that thousands of people rely on the culvert for daily travel, and with its collapse, their routine has been severely affected. He pointed out that since the canal is currently dry, the department should start reconstruction without delay.
Supporting the demand, former Sarpanch Shamsher Singh Sheri warned that if the reconstruction does not begin soon, locals would be forced to protest. Panch Karan Samrat and Prakash Singh also voiced their concern, stating that the bridge has become too old for repairs and needs to be replaced with a wider structure, allowing two vehicles to pass simultaneously.
Among those present at the site were Lambdar Ludramani Sharma, Sanjeev Katal, Swarn Das, Gurdas Mal Bittu, Ashok Singh Chib, Ramesh Meena, Kabul Singh, Sajan Thapa, Puran Chand, Sanjay Singh, and a large number of concerned locals.
