Srinagar, Mar 15: The Government today handed over Gilsar and Khushalsar lakes to the J&K Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) for monitoring and constant upkeep.
An order in this regard, was issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department.
“Sanction is hereby accorded to the handing over the management of Gilsar and Khushalsar lakes to Jammu & Kashmir Lake Conservation and Management Authority as per the revenue details appended …to cater the task of cleaning, constant monitoring and watch and ward etc. of these twin lakes,” the order read.
It is worth noting that, until now, these two lakes were not under the direct control of either the LCMA or the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), leading to its deterioration over the years.
The demand for their management transfer grew, especially after the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organization (NLCO), led by Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, undertook their sustained conservation under Mission Ehsaas.
“A historic milestone for Gilsar and Khushalsar-the twin lakes are now under LCMA for dedicated restoration, fulfilling a long-pending demand,” Wangnoo said.
