Official sources said that a police team led by SHO Rajouri, Inspector Abid Hussain Shah, apprehended the accused, identified as Shabnam Kouser, wife of Mohd Shakoor, a resident of Dhanidhar, Rajouri. The arrest was made in connection with Case FIR No. 24/2025 under the NDPS Act.
During the search operation, the police recovered 17 grams of heroin, 138 grams of narcotic powder-like substance, 121 psychotropic banned tablets, six digital weighing machines, and three rolls of foil paper from the possession of the accused. The recovery of these materials indicates her active involvement in drug- trafficking and distribution in the region.
This arrest is linked to an earlier operation conducted on March 6, 2025, in which two individuals, Ajaz Ahmed, son of Mohd Yaqoob, resident of Kanthol, Rajouri and Afraz Khan, son of Mohd Alyas, resident of Khanyalkot, Thannamandi, were apprehended at a naka point at Kotranka. During sustained interrogation, the arrested individuals disclosed the involvement of Shabnam Kouser, which led to her subsequent arrest.
It is pertinent to mention that Shabnam Kouser’s husband is already booked in multiple NDPS cases and is currently lodged in jail. This indicates a well-organized network involved in narcotics smuggling, which the police are actively working to dismantle. The investigation is ongoing, and further arrests are expected as authorities intensify their crackdown on drug trafficking in the district.
SSP Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar, reaffirmed the police department’s unwavering commitment to eliminating the drug menace from society.
